Cookie Policy
This page explains what cookies are, how Persona uses them, and how you can manage or disable them. By using Persona you consent to the use of cookies described here.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by your browser when you visit a site. Cookies help the site remember who you are, what you were doing, and what you prefer. Similar technologies (local storage, pixels) work the same way in practice.
How we use them
We use three categories of cookies:
1. Strictly necessary
These run the app. You can't turn them off — without them the site doesn't work.
| Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|
| Signing you in and keeping you signed in | session |
| Remembering your place in the quiz | persona.scoreSet (sessionStorage) |
| Security & CSRF protection | HTTP-only cookies set by our Express server |
| Checkout: passing through to Stripe and remembering where you came from | Stripe's own cookies |
2. Analytics
These help us see which pages people use and where they get stuck — in aggregate, never identified to an individual. We use these to improve the product.
| Provider | What it sees |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Clarity | Page views, clicks, scroll depth, anonymous session replays |
| Meta (Facebook) Pixel | Page views and conversion events, used to measure ad performance |
You can opt out of the Meta Pixel by visiting Meta's Ad Preferences.
3. Functional
Remember your preferences (e.g. whether you've dismissed a banner, which quiz retake option you picked). These make the app feel less repetitive. They don't track you across the web.
Third-party cookies
When you interact with third-party embeds (Stripe Checkout, YouTube videos on blog posts, etc.) those third parties may set their own cookies. We don't control them; their own privacy and cookie policies apply.
How to control cookies
- Browser settings — all modern browsers let you block or delete cookies. See the docs for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.
- Clear Persona-specific cookies — sign out, then clear cookies for
startpersona.comin your browser settings. - Mobile devices — use "Limit Ad Tracking" (iOS) or "Opt out of Ads Personalization" (Android) to reduce third-party tracking.
Do Not Track
We honour Do Not Track signals for non-essential analytics cookies. If your browser sends a DNT header, we won't load Clarity or the Meta Pixel. Strictly-necessary cookies still run because the app can't work without them.
Changes
If we add or swap out vendors we'll update this page and, where required, ask you to re-consent.
